Submitting Articles and Community Notices
Article Submissions
The Voice For Island Seniors is a lifestyle magazine containing timely articles on travel, health, food, finances, relationships, nostalgia, retirement, and Island history.  In addition, we publish some poetry and prose written by Island seniors.
We welcome submissions of original articles (not taken from other sources) by Island seniors, articles of interest to seniors and articles with PEI content. Unfortunately, we cannot publish articles without permission from the author. Some keywords that best describe acceptable submissions are: upbeat, informative, entertaining, interesting, and well-written.
Articles should not contain controversial issues. Please note, we do not publish press releases, advertisements, sales letters, or other promotional pieces. These types of submissions will be referred to the advertising department at The Guardian newspaper. (Please contact Susan Myers at 902-629-6021 for information about advertising in The Voice.) In addition, articles may not contain obscenity, or any material that would promote intolerance against any group. The content of articles may not be inflammatory, defamatory, libelous, or offensive.
Due to space limitations, some articles, stories or poems may not be published for several months after receipt (seasonal articles may take a year or more). First priority is given to regular columns, second priority to time-sensitive articles and all other acceptable articles, stories or poems are published as space allows.
The writer's name, address and phone number should accompany all submissions. While we try to acknowledge receipt of submissions, this is not always possible due to time constraints.
Please note, we do not guarantee publication of submissions. We reserve the right to accept or reject material and to edit for content, style, grammar and space. Submission of an article indicates your acceptance of these conditions.
Format of Submissions
Please submit articles and notices via e-mail in Word format, typed single spaced with no paragraph indentation in Times New Roman, 12 point. Original, concrete details and short paragraphs are essential. Articles should be proofed and checked for accuracy prior to submission. Preference is given to articles under 500 words, but articles should not exceed 800 words. Type-written or legible handwritten articles may be mailed or delivered to the PEI Senior Citizens' Federation office at 40 Enman Crescent, Suite 214, Charlottetown, PE C1E 1E6 or emailed to voiceforislandseniors@gmail.ca.
Community Event Notices
The Voice publishes community event notices that are of interest to seniors. Notices should be brief (under 50 words) and include the name of the event, where it will be held, when it will be held and a contact name and telephone number and should be submitted in publication ready format (Word, Times New Roman, 12 point).
Please do not submit posters, lengthy articles or PDF files. We do not publish press releases. These should be submitted to The Guardian newspaper.
Due to space limitations, community events beneficial to seniors are given priority over general event notices. Publication-ready event notices should be sent to: VoiceForIslandSeniors@gmail.com
P.E.I. Senior Citizens' Federation Member Club Activities
The Voice publishes listings of activities that take place at our member seniors' clubs across the Island. We ask member clubs to submit their monthly events on or before the 15th of the month preceding publication. Monthly events may be phoned in to the PEI Senior Citizens' Federation office. For additional information, contact the Federation office at 902-368-9008.
Submission Deadlines
Articles and community event notices must be received no later than the 15th of the month preceding publication, except the January issue which is due on December 10th.
