In June of 1971, eight Prince Edward Island senior citizens clubs came
together to form the Prince Edward Island Senior Citizens’ Federation ("the
Federation").  At the same time, the Federation became a member of the
National Pensioners and Senior Citizens’ Federation in Toronto.  From these
humble beginnings, the Federation has grown to include clubs and
organizations across Prince Edward Island.

Incorporated in 1993, the Federation is a non-profit charitable organization
that is managed by a fifteen (15) member volunteer Board of Directors and an
Executive Director.  Our office is located at the Royalty Centre in
Charlottetown.

Through our clubs and members, our organization provides a network of
information and communication to help safeguard and improve the quality of
life for Island seniors.  We keep close contact with Island seniors – both
members and nonmembers – and we offer a venue by which Island seniors may
voice their issues and concerns and be heard.

The Federation is a grassroots organization.  We act as a collective voice and
advocate for Island seniors.  We publish
The Voice for Island Seniors, a
monthly supplement in the Guardian newspaper and a quarter newsletter,
The
Federation Voice
.  In addition, we administer a variety of programs including
the
55 Alive/Mature Driving Refresher Course, Friendly Visitor Program,
Learning Elders Arts Program (LEAP), Lifetime Membership Program and
The Island Family Trees Program.

The Federation acts as a liaison between the government and PEI seniors'
clubs and organizations.  We are a also valuable resource for the government
and other nonprofit organizations.
