- Voice for Island Seniors
PEI Senior Citizens’ Federation Inc.
Housing Subcommittee
This is a summary of the report presented by Federation Director (and subcommittee
member) Sister Norma Gallant at the General Meeting.

The Federation Housing Subcommittee was created to be watchful of
provincial and federal government policies and services regarding seniors’
housing (or lack thereof).  Members of the subcommittee include: Eric
Hammill, Ray Cantelo, Corena Cairns, Sister Norma Gallant, and Linda Jean
Nicholson.

The subcommittee was tasked with the following duties: to consult with
various experts in government and question their plans to meet the needs
of Island seniors; to collect information from these experts regarding
programs that assist seniors to live independently in their homes and
communities; to report and make recommendations to the Federation Board
of Directors regarding areas of advocacy in need of attention.

The subcommittee has held two meetings with provincial and federal
government representatives.  Information was collected regarding various
programs.  It is obvious to the subcommittee that there exists a serious lack
of affordable and adequate housing for Island seniors and that additional
programs are needed to insure seniors can safely continue to live in their
own homes and communities.
