- Voice for Island Seniors
PEI Senior Citizens’ Federation Inc.
Health Subcommittee
This is a summary of the report presented by Federation Secretary (and
subcommittee member) Susan Birt at the General Meeting.

The work of the Federation Health Subcommittee is outside of regular
meetings with Catherine Freeze and Faye Martin that the Federation Board
engages in. The Federation Board enjoys a positive working relationship
with Department of Health representatives. Subcommittee members include:
Eric Hammill, Ray Cantelo, Ross and Sheila Mac Kay, Anna Duffy (upon
invitation), Susan Birt and Linda Jean Nicholson.

The subcommittee met with government representatives on three
occasions.  In September, we met with government who presented an
update on their implementation plans for “An Integrated Health System”.

In October, we met with Mary Jane Callaghan who has been seconded to the
department for six months to ‘‘design the next steps in establishing a new
model of Home Care Provincially”.  And in October, Anna Duffy and Susan
Birt attended, by invitation, a three day workshop on “Discharge
Management” within the Acute Care system.

There is so much happening in Health that the subcommittee has had to
narrow its focus to what we believe is the priority area for seniors - Seniors’
Home Care and adequate funding of Seniors’ Home Care.

Your subcommittee urges members to be alert to changes that are
occurring in health and if you have concerns, to voice that concern publicly
and to the Federation, so that we can work to address any issues that affect
you negatively.
