Computing for Seniors Program
- Voice for Island Seniors
A flurry of telephone calls from Island seniors in search of basic computer courses
prompted the Seniors' Federation to make an application to New Horizons for a grant to
provide free computer classes to seniors.

When the grant was approved, the Seniors' Federation published a brief article in the
Voice For Island Seniors to promote the courses.

“We received over 200 telephone calls from seniors interested in registering for basic
computer courses,” explained Executive Director Linda Jean Nicholson, “we were
pleasantly overwhelmed with the response.”

Six separate courses were scheduled for April and were immediately filled. “We’ve been
able to accommodate everyone who wants to attend a course,” said Nicholson, “we’re now
booking into September.  People have been so grateful for the opportunity to learn more
about computers. Their gratitude makes it all worth it.”

The pilot program was so successful, the PEI Provincial Government has agreed to fund
the program for another year.

Registrations are now being taken for February, March and April.  For more information,
