Annual General Meeting of the PEI Senior Citizens' Federation a Great Success!
The Annual General Meeting of the Prince Edward Island Senior Citizens' Federation was held on Tuesday, May 19th at the Rodd Royalty Inn and Suites in Charlottetown with over 120 members and guests in attendance.
Coffee and danish were served during registration while musician Jill Harris played soothing harp music in the background. Attendees browsed exhibit and information tables presented by: PEI Seniors Safety, CLIA, Service Canada, Arthritis Society, Home Instead, Seniors' Secretariat of Prince Edward Island, Canada Games, Women's Work Art Promo, Murphy's Pharmacy, PEI Office of Energy Efficiency, RCMP, Osteoporosis Canada - PEI Chapter, Andrews of Charlottetown, and Alzheimer Society.
The meeting opened with Federation member Teresa Bernard of Harmony Road in Richmond singing "O Canada".
Eric Hammill, President of the PEI Senior Citizens' Federation welcomed everyone.
The Honourable Doug Currie, Minister of Health and Minister of Social Services and Seniors greeted the crowd and spoke briefly about programs the role of the provincial government in
President Eric Hammill thanked the minister and then introduced the Federation Board of Directors.
Sister Norma Gallant, Western PEI Coordinator for the PEI Seniors Safety Program, gave a brief presentation about the Senior Safety Program and the Vial of Life. Catherine Freeze of the Seniors' Secretariat of Prince Edward Island presented a new DVD "Dental Health for Seniors", a resource developed from the Seniors' Oral Health Strategy, 2005-2010.
Immediately before lunch, Guest Speaker, the Honourable Judge John McQuaid, gave an informative talk entitled "Understanding the PEI Court Structure". He was thanked by President Eric Hammill.
During lunch, a selection of songs were performed by Federation member Teresa Bernard.
Immediately following lunch, Anne Nicholson, Project Officer with the Community Legal Information Association of Prince Edward Island (CLIA) presented information regarding the New Horizons Project "Abuse of Older Adults: What Islanders Need to Know".
